The underlying principle of all ZCBF initiatives is that of self-sustainability. The ZCBF was set up as a facilitating agent meant to bring projects together with the people and funding to make them happen, nurture them to independence, then step back and watch them grow. This has not always been as simple as it sounds, and in the past this lead to the ZCBF becoming involved with the ongoing management of projects for extended periods of time, often becoming over-extended in terms of its resources. Over the past two to three years, there has been a strong focus on consolidation in the interest of the future sustainability of the organisation, and many of the early ZCBF initiatives and partnership projects are now operating independently.
Equipment and Learning Material to Crèche
The ZCBF has donated various equipment and educational material to run the crèche smoothly. The donation of blankets, mattresses, educational books, toys, chairs and tables will ensure that the 47 children attending the crèche balance learning and playing. The funding proposal for the building facilities has been prepared with assistance from ZCBF. Through the Councillor of Ward 29, the uMhlathuze Municipality had assisted the community with site clearing and levelling of the proposed crèche.
